Nokia battery explodes

A Nokia cellphone battery explosion was reported in the city on Tuesday morning. However, nobody was injured. The cellphone that exploded had a battery in the 4C series while Nokia had last month issued advisories only about the BL-5C series batteries. The incident took place at the residence of N. Harsha at Sagar Society in Ameerpet.

Mr Harsha, who runs a software company from his residence, said that he had left his Nokia N72 cellphone for charging. After some time he heard a loud sound and noticed smoke and a foul smell, Mr Harsha said. He assumed that it was emanating was from his computer, but upon checking found that his cellphone had exploded. Tuesday’s incident was the first to be reported from the city, there were reports of cellphones exploding from other districts.

The city police on Friday arrested two youngsters who allegedly stole three cars adopting a peculiar modus operandi of stealing master keys and using the same to take away the cars. Three stolen cars, including a Honda City CRV worth Rs. 17 lakh, were seized from their possession.

Auto drivers were harassed

Auto drivers were harassed by Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee with the new orders of the Transport Department asking auto-drivers to pass the driving licence test for a second time to be able to drive a transport autorickshaw.

Stating that the licence to drive a transport auto is issued only to drivers holding a licence to drive similar category non-transport vehicles or light motor vehicles for at least one year, the committee said that new orders were aimed at harassing them.
